Mt. Chausudake—Vantage Point for Panorama of Hachimantai

Hachimantai covers a vast area, and the panorama from Chausudake offers a panoramic view of its magnificent scenery. Looking south from the lava dome at the top of Chausudake, the majestic Mt. The vast alluvial plain of the Kitakami River basin spreads out at the foot of the mountain, providing a spectacular view that stretches far into the distance.

The East Hachimantai Volcano Group refers to the area from Gentamori through Chausudake to Maemoriyama, and was formed by more recent volcanic activity than the West Hachimantai Volcano Group. Therefore, the topography of this area is characterized by a youthful, sharply defined outline.

Directly below, the beautiful view of the primeval forests of the upper reaches of the Kitakami River and the marshlands of Onuma and Kumanuma can be seen. The rich natural environment here offers attractive scenery that changes with the seasons.

There are two routes to the summit. The main route, which is also used as a ski resort in winter, is a bit steeper, but offers new views at each point along the way. On the other hand, a gentle climb along the Kurotaniji slope leads hikers into a beautiful Tsuga forest and beyond to a trail that leads to the summit.

During the summer, alpine plants bloom along the trail one after another. In early summer, the trail is decorated with daisies, mountain buttercups, and dogwoods, and in mid-summer, the mountain boxwood and rhododendrons are at their best. Visitors can enjoy the flowers of each season while appreciating the beauty of nature.
