The art of lacquerware in this region is believed to have begun approximately 1,300 years ago, during the establishment of Joboji Temple, located north of the APPI Kogen, monks of the time are thought to have pioneered this craft.
The high-quality lacquer harvested in this area enhances the brilliance of its base colors with a remarkable clarity, the multi-layered lacquering technique gives APPI lacquerware its signature luxurious appearance and exceptional durability."
